General Information On Aclovate Ointment
Aclovate Ointment is a topical dermatologic medication prescribed to patients suffering from different skin conditions like eczema, skin allergies, skin rashes, dermatitis, and psoriasis that have common symptoms like inflammation, redness, and itching. Alclometasone Dipropionate is the generic name of the medication and it belongs to the class of synthetic corticosteroids.
Aclovate Ointment works by releasing anti-inflammatory agents that not only control swelling and inflammation, but also alleviate redness and itching. It is administered externally and must only be used for the recommended period of time. You must consult a doctor if the skin condition doesn’t improve within that timeframe. The drug comes in 3 different sizes, all of which are given below:
- Aclovate Ointment 0.05% 15g tubes
- Aclovate Ointment 0.05% 45g tubes
- Aclovate Ointment 0.05% 60g tubes
Aclovate Ointment mainly contains alclometasone, which is the only active ingredient present in the medication. The additional ingredients in the ointment include white wax, hexylene glycol, white petrolatum, and propylene glycol stearate.
Side effects of Aclovate Ointment
You should not buy Aclovate Ointment online or from a pharmacy for any disorder other than that for which your doctor prescribed the drug. Patients suffering from diabetes must not use the medication as steroids may get absorbed through the skin and cause a rise in blood sugar levels.
Inform your doctor if you suffer from serious skin infections like chickenpox and measles, and if you have a history of allergies to corticosteroids.

No serious side effects have been reported with the use of this medication. However, occlusive dressings used with the medication may cause:
- Acne eruptions
- Hypopigmentation
- Folliculitis
- Skin atrophy
- Miliaria
- Perioral dermatitis
- Striae
Corticosteroids are pregnancy category C drugs. These can also seep into breast milk, and as such, breastfeeding mothers must consult a doctor before they buy Aclovate Ointment. Pregnant mothers must also talk to their doctor before using this medication.
Dosage of Aclovate Ointment
The use of Aclovate Ointment must be restricted to no more than 2 weeks, unless otherwise recommended by a doctor. The ointment must be massaged into the skin up to 3 times a day on the affected areas, but your doctor can change this frequency of application as per your individual condition. Note that the affected area must not be covered or bandaged after the administration of the medication.
Aclovate Ointment is not recommended for children who are less than a year old. Children older than 1 year must be given Aclovate Ointment for no more than 3 weeks, or as per the doctor’s prescriptions. Diaper dermatitis is one condition for which the ointment must never be used.
Aclovate Ointment is only for external use and must never be ingested.
Interactions
