General Information On Actigall
Actigall is a medication used for the prevention and treatment of gallstones and the treatment of liver cirrhosis. The generic name of the medication is Ursodiol and it is available in the form of capsules. Actigall is a gastrointestinal agent and belongs to the pharmacologic class of naturally=occurring bile acids.
Ursodiol is a naturally occurring bile acid in the human body. The acid is useful in dissolving the cholesterol responsible for the formation of gallstones. In addition, it also prevents cholesterol production in the liver. Another function of Ursodiol is to control the production of harmful bile acids in the liver. Actigall helps increase the level of this bile acid. It is administered orally and is available in Actigall 300 mg strength.
Ursodiol is the active ingredient present in the medication. The other ingredients in the medication include:
- Colloidal silicon dioxide
- Starch
- Magnesium stearate
- Gelatin
- Ferric oxide
- Titanium dioxide
Side effects of Actigall
It is important to note that Actigall can’t be used to treat calcified gallstones. In addition, it is not prescribed for the treatment of radiolucent bile pigment stones and radiopaque stones.
