General Information On Aldactazide
Aldactazide is indicated for the treatment of edema or water retention in people suffering from cirrhosis of the liver, nephrotic syndrome (a type of kidney disease), or congestive heart failure. This drug is also used in the treatment of hypertension or high blood pressure.
The generic name of this drug is Hydrochlorothiazide and Spironolactone, derived from the names of the two active ingredients present in this drug. Aldactazide is meant for oral administration only.
Aldactazide falls under a category of drugs referred to as thiazide diuretics. Hydrochloride helps in preventing excessive absorption of salt. Spironolactone works by preventing too much absorption of salt and ensuring that blood potassium levels do not plummet.
In addition to the two active ingredients, Aldactazide oral tablets also contain the following excipients: hydroxypropyl cellulose, calcium sulfate, flavor, corn starch, hypromellose, polyethylene glycol, iron oxide, titanium dioxide, povidone, and magnesium sterate.
Side effects of Aldactazide
You should not buy Aldactazide if you have a known hypersensitivity to it. If you are using this drug for the first time and experience any of the following side effects such as difficulty swallowing or breathing, severe skin rashes, and/or facial flushing, immediately report them to your doctor. The emergence of any of these symptoms indicate an allergic reaction, which, if left untreated, can be potentially dangerous.
Aldactazide is contraindicated in patients who have a kidney disease or hyperkalemia (high blood potassium levels). Do not take potassium supplements or follow a diet rich in potassium during your treatment, as it may lead to high potassium levels. Similarly, during treatment, do not follow a diet rich in salt. This will lead to excessive salt buildup and make the medication less effective.
Common and less severe side effects of Aldactazide are: epigastric distress (such as constipation, bloating, gas, or mild abdominal pain), headache, dizziness, vomiting, and nausea.
Rare but severe side effects of this drug are: muscle weakness or pain, vision problems, eye pain, drowsiness, light-headedness, tremors, shallow breathing, confusion, and signs of liver damage (such as loss of appetite, yellowing of the eyes and skin, dark-colored stools, or tarry/black stools).
The safety and efficacy of Aldactazide in pregnant and lactating women has not been established. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant during Aldactazide treatment, or breastfeeding a baby, consult your physician before using this drug.
