General Information On Ansaid
Ansaid is used for reducing swelling, pain, or joint stiffness caused due to arthritis. Its generic name is Flurbiprofen, and it belongs to the class of NSAIDs. In some cases, Ansaid can also be used for treating arthritis of the spine.
The medicine is available in the form of oral tablets. You should take Ansaid exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It works by decreasing hormones in the body that cause pain and inflammation due to the disease.
Side effects of Ansaid
Ansaid can increase the risk of heart attack or stroke. This risk increases even more for patients who have a heart disease, diabetes or high blood pressure, or if you smoke. In rare cases, this drug may also lead to a fatal bleeding in the intestines or stomach. Look out for symptoms such as dark colored vomit, persistent abdominal or stomach pain, black, tarry, or bloody stools, left arm, chest or jaw pain, unusual sweating, shortness of breath, sudden vision changes, weakness on one side of the body, or slurred speech.
Constipation, upset stomach, diarrhea, heartburn, gas, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, fatigue, drowsiness, or headache may commonly occur in Ansaid patients. Although these are mild side effects of the drug, you should notify your doctor at once if any of these become too troublesome.
Also inform your doctor immediately if you witness swelling on the feet or hands, stomach pain, unexplained weight gain, hearing changes, vision changes, mental or mood changes, persistent or severe headache, difficulty swallowing, fainting, or a fast or pounding heartbeat. Seek immediate medical help if you have unexplained neck stiffness, easy bruising/bleeding, decreased or increased urination, or slurred speech.
In some cases, Ansaid may also lead to a severe liver disease, symptoms of which are nausea, severe abdominal pain, vomiting, severe stomach pain, dark color urine, unusual tiredness or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
Some patients may also develop an allergic reaction after taking Ansaid. Symptoms of an allergy include swelling of the face, throat, tongue or lips, severe dizziness, difficulty breathing, or hives. Discontinue taking Ansaid at once and seek medical help if you are allergic to it.
Dosage of Ansaid
Initially, you will be recommended to take Ansaid 200-300mg per day, divided into two to four doses during the day. The single largest dose a patient can be given is Ansaid 100mg. The maximum amount of Ansaid a patient can be given in a day is Ansaid 400mg. The dosage depends on various individual conditions, such as your age, physical condition, presence of other medical conditions, other drugs you are taking at present, and your response to Ansaid.
You will have to take the Ansaid tablets with a full glass of water. Avoid lying down for at least 10 minutes after taking the drug. If you suffer from a stomach upset after taking a dose, your doctor may ask you to take Ansaid with milk, food, or an antacid.
The first signs of improvement are usually seen after around 2 weeks of starting the treatment.
