Basic Information On Avapro
Avapro drug is an anti-hypertensive agent and an antagonist of angiotensin II receptor. It is used in the treatment of hypertension. It can be used alone or as a combination therapy with other anti-hypertensive drugs as well. It is also used in the treatment of a condition called diabetic neuropathy in patients with type-2 diabetes and hypertension, who have an elevated creatinine level and proteinuria (< 300 mg/day). The drug acts by inhibiting the effects of angiotensin II. Angiotensin II is a vaso-constrictor that acts on vascular smooth muscles. Thus, the drug facilitates vasodilation. By blocking the effect of angiotensin II, brand or generic Avapro also blocks the synthesis of aldosterone, which is responsible for decreasing sodium excretion and increasing potassium excretion.
