General Information On Aviane
Aviane is used for preventing a pregnancy. The generic name of this drug is Ethinyl Estradiol and Levonorgestrel. It is meant for oral administration only.
Aviane works by preventing the ovulation and fertilization of an egg and by stopping the fertilized egg from attaching itself to the uterus. Like other oral contraceptive pills, Aviane causes the uterine lining and cervical mucus to thicken.
Aviane 28 (one course comprises of 28 tablets, thus the name Aviane 28) comprises of 21 orange-colored active tablets and 7 inert tablets (light green color). Each active tablet contains levonorgestrel (0.10 mg) and ethinyl estradiol (0.02 mg).
Side effects of Aviane
Common side effects of Aviane are: nausea, decreased or increased appetite, upset stomach, weight gain, increased sensitivity to sunlight, breast tenderness or enlargement, or mood changes. You should consult your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe.
The less common side effects of this oral contraceptive include: arm, leg, or groin pain, vision problems, speech problems, chest pain, dizziness, severe headaches, severe stomach pain, swelling of the feet, ankles, or hands, yellowing of the eyes or skin, or increased blood sugar levels. Consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of these side effects.
Women who have any of the following conditions should not buy Aviane: liver disease, blood circulation problems, a history of blood clots or strokes, severe migraine, severe hypertension, abnormal or untreated vaginal bleeding, or a heart valve disease.
Aviane is contraindicated in pregnant women as it can lead to fetal abnormalities. Do not use this drug if you are pregnant.
The presence of certain medical conditions such as tuberculosis, fibroids, liver disease, stroke, jaundice, gallbladder disease, blood clots, heart problems, blood circulation problems, or diabetes may make the use of Aviane or other oral contraceptives unsafe. Before using Aviane, ensure that you inform your doctor about your medical history.
Seizure medications, prednisolone, St. John’s wort, barbiturates, acetaminophen, blood thinners, theophylline, and certain other drugs may reduce the efficacy of oral contraceptives. It is important that you inform your doctor about all the drugs that you are currently taking.
Dosage of Aviane
For the first 21 days, you need to take one active ingredient (orange colored) tablet each day. After 21 days, take one inert ingredient (light green) tablet each day for the next 7 days. It is recommended that you take Aviane at the same time each day. You should store Avian at room temperature (15°C-30°C).
It is imperative that you take Aviane exactly as directed by your doctor. Missing a dose of Aviane increases your risk of getting pregnant. If you miss a dose of the active tablet, take 2 active tablets the next day.
