Axert is used for the treatment of headaches due to migraine attacks in adults and in adolescents with a minimum age of 12 years. This drug comes in a tablet form and is used for treating headaches that have already begun. This drug acts on the blood vessels that are around the brain and does not affect any other vessels/arteries. When you take Axert during the mild stage of a migraine attack, the drug gives you optimum results, by reducing the pain. The recommended dosage of Axert for adults and children in the age group of 12 to 17 years is 6.25 mg to 12.5 mg. The dosage of 12.5 mg is reported to be more effective in adults. Your doctor will prescribe the dosage depending on your response to the medicine and your tolerance level. If your headache is relieved after the initial dose of Axert but returns after some time, you may repeat the dose after 2 hours. The success of the second dose has not been established in clinical trials. You should not exceed the maximum daily dosage above 25 mg.
