General Information On Axid
Axid is indicated for the treatment of intestinal and stomach ulcers. It is also used in the treatment of erosive esophagitis and heart burn caused by GERD or gastroesophageal reflux disease. The generic name of this drug is Nizatidine.
Axid falls under a category of drugs known as histamine-2 blockers. Histamine, produced by certain cells in our body, plays a vital role in producing stomach acid. As the name suggests, histamine-2 blockers, such as Axid, inhibits the activity of histamine. This, in turn, retards the production of stomach acid. Reduced production of acid prevents the formation of ulcers and allows existing ulcers to heal.
Axid is meant for oral administration only and is available in the form of oral tablets, capsules, and oral solution.
