Azor is a combinational drug and consists of two anti-hypertensive agents, in a tablet form. This drug is used in the management and treatment of high blood pressure that is hypertension. One component of the brand or generic Azor acts by preventing the blood vessels from narrowing. When the blood vessels relax then the blood pressure remains low. Thus, the blood that is rich in oxygen reaches the heart. Another component of the drug relaxes the smooth muscles that are present in the arterial wall or the heart. Thus, it helps in reducing the blood pressure and elevating the flow of blood to the heart.
Precautions / Side Effects for Azor
Common side effects of Amlodipine /Olmesartan includes flu-like-symptoms, back pain, diarrhea, sore throat, sinusitis, respiratory infections (usually upper respiratory system), dizziness, headache and drowsiness. Azor may also cause swelling due to excessive accumulation of water in the cells or tissues, especially in the feet or ankle, a condition called edema. The Azor drug may cause redness under the skin, loss of hair and skin rashes (mild) or itching.
Other side effects that may be associated with Amlodipine /Olmesartan are rare but may be serious. These include swelling in the lips, tongue, throat or face; any allergic reactions like hives, difficulty in breathing; muscle pain, weakness, nausea, vomiting, change in the color of the urine (usually darker), fast heartbeats, weight gain (rapid), jaundice like symptoms such as a yellow color appearance on the skin or eyes. Azor Dosage
The recommended starting dosage of Azor is 5/20 mg to be taken once every day. This dosage can be increased after one to two weeks of treatment to a maximum dosage of one 10/40 mg tablet to be taken once every day. Studies have shown that maximum antihypertensive effects are achieved within two weeks after a change in dosage. You can take Azor with or without food. This medicine can be taken with other antihypertensive medications. The maximum recommended dosage of this medicine is 10/40 mg. Studies have shown that Azor provides blood pressure lowering abilities in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with amlodipine alone.
