General Information On Baytril
Baytril is a veterinary medicine used for managing bacterial pathogens in felines and canines. It can treat a variety of infections, including urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, digestive infections, ear infections or skin infections.
The active ingredient in the drug is Enrofloxacin, and it belongs to the therapeutic class of broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotics. Baytril is available in the form of oral tablets.

In some cases, retinal degeneration may also occur, including attenuated retinal vessels, hyper-reflective tapeta, or retinal atrophy.
Animals suffering from CNS disorders should not be given quinolone antibiotics, as they may be more at risk of developing convulsive seizures caused due to CNS stimulation. Quinolone antibiotics may also lead to cartilage erosions in certain joints of immature animals.
Baytril may cause excessive thirst in some animals. Therefore, you should give them access to fresh water so that they do not become dehydrated or suffer from a heat stroke. Allow your pet to take sufficient rest during Baytril treatment.
Dosage of Baytril
For dogs, the recommended dosage is Baytril 5 to 20mg per kg of the pet’s weight. However, the dosage given to a dog depends on the severity of its disease, susceptibility of pathogens, medical condition, and response to the treatment. If higher doses are being given to your pet, the veterinarian may need to monitor its depression, inappetance, and vomition levels. For cats, the recommended dose is Baytril 5mg per kg of weight. The medicine is meant to be taken orally, exactly as prescribed by the veterinarian.
Baytril tablets can be given to the pet either by hand or via food. The duration of treatment may range from 2-3 days beyond relief from symptoms to as long as 30 days. The dosage can be given to the animal either as a single dose, or can be divided into 2 equal doses during the day. If divided into 2 doses, maintain a gap of around 12 hours between them.
