General Information on Benuryl
Benuryl is a drug used as a preventive measure against gout. It must be noted that this medicine does not treat an already diagnosed case of gout. The generic name for Benuryl is Probenecid. The drug belongs to the drug group of aminopenicillins.
Gout is a condition caused by the excess uric acid that gets deposited in the body. Benuryl decreased the level of uric acid in blood by acting on the kidney. It allows the kidney to excrete the excess uric acid through urine. Benuryl might also be taken to prevent the loss of medicines like penicillin from the kidney. The drug is available in form of the following tablets- Benuryl 250mg, Benuryl 500mg and Benuryl 1000mg.
The non-medical ingredients of Benuryl are starch, cellulose, glycolate, silicon dioxide, talc and magnesium.
Side effects of Benuryl
You should buy Benuryl if any of the following conditions are true:
- If you have a known allergy to any of the ingredients of Benuryl, indicated by diarrhea, reduced weight and rashes
- If a gout attack has already begun
- If you have blood related problems or an ulcer
- I f you have kidney stones
Benuryl can induce the formation of kidney stones. Let you doctor know about your complete medical history and risk of kidney stone formation before you buy Benuryl. Inform your doctor if you are currently taking any other medications or if you have any allergies or prior medical conditions.
Most medicines cause side effects. The following are some minor side effects of Benuryl:
- Dizziness
- Increased frequency of urination
- Headache, sore throat, selling and weight loss
- Joint pain
These side effects can be managed easily. Most of them go away on themselves after a short period of time.
However, if your are experiencing side effects such as painful urination, blooded urine, rib pain, sore gums, unusual weight gain, rashes, white spots in tongue and yellow eyes, then you should contact a doctor without delay. These side effects are very serious and have to be taken care off as early as possible.
Dosage of Benuryl
The common dosage of the drug is taking in Benuryl 250 mg twice a day for 10 days followed by taking in Benuryl 500 mg for a week. You should not exceed 2,000 mg per day on any case.
If you miss a dose, never compensate for that on the next dose.
Interactions
There are certain drugs that interact with Benuryl. For instance, other antibiotics such as Penicillin or Cefazolin could nullify the effect of this drug. Drugs like heparin, zidovudine, tenoxicam and morphine too interact with benuryl. If you are taking any of these medications, stop using them.
Give the list of your entire medications to your doctor so that he could prevent drug interactions before they occur.
