You should not use brand or generic Betaseron if you are allergic to interferons or human albumin. Interferon beta-1b belongs to pregnancycategory C. It can injure the fetus and may even cause miscarriage. Therefore, it must not be used by pregnant women. You should also rotate injection sites. The lyophilized Betaseron injection is reconstituted by attaching it to a prefilled diluent syringe. In case the medication foams due to accidental shaking, keep the vial still to allow foam to settle down. The injection is given in the skin area of the stomach, buttocks, and thighs or back of the upper arm.
