General Information on Buscopan
Buscopan is used for relieving muscle cramps in the stomach, gut, intestines, bladder and urinary tract. Sometimes, it can also be used for relieving IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms.
Buscopan contains Hyoscine Burylbromide, which belongs to the class of antispasmodics. It works by relaxing the muscles in the walls of stomach, bowel, intestines, bile duct, and the urinary tract. It blocks the receptors of muscle cells so that acetylcholine cannot work on the muscles. In this way, the muscles are relaxed, and painful cramps and spasms are reduced.

Side effects of Buscopan
Patients suffering from myasthenia gravis, megacolon, dilated or abnormally large intestine, closed angle glaucoma, fructose intolerance, sucrase isomaltase insufficiency, or glucose galactose malabsorption should not take Buscopan, as severe side effects may occur. Patients with tachycardia, heart failure, an overactive thyroid, enlarged prostate gland, or blockage in the intestines should also use this drug with caution. Children between 6 to 12 years of age are recommended to take one Buscopan 10mg tablet 3 times a day. Dosage adjustments can be made depending on the patient’s age and the condition that needs to be treated.
You will have to take Buscopan tablets with water, without breaking, crushing or chewing them. Try to take the tablets at almost the same time each day. If you have forgotten to take a dose and it is almost time for the next dose, it would be better to continue with the dose schedule.
