General Information on Cancidas
Cancidas is used to treat a variety of severe fungal infections, which includes fungal infections of the esophagus, lungs, stomach and other internal body areas. It is specifically prescribed when other antifungal medications/therapies do not work to cure fungal infections.
Caspofungin Acetate, the main active ingredient in Cancidas, belongs to a family of drugs known as echinocandins. The drug suppresses the synthesis of β (1,3)-D-glucan, an essential constituent in the fungal cell wall.

Dosage of Cancidas
Cancidas is supplied in the form of an injection. The shot is given by a trained medical professional or doctor in a hospital or clinic setting. The Cancidas shot needs to given as a slow intravenous infusion, which may take approximately 1 hour.
Doctors generally give a 70mg loading dose for a majority of fungal infections, which is then followed by a 50mg dose. The 50mg dose is given on the following day after the loading dose. In most cases, you may have to take a 50mg Cancidas shot every day for 14 days. The duration of treatment depends on the patient’s response to the drug.
The recommended dose remains same in empiric therapy for treating fungal infections. The only difference between general treatment and empiric therapy is you will be required to take the Cancidas shot for at least 7 days after clinical trials and neutropenia are resolved.
