Basic Information On Combigan
Combigan is the brand name for the ophthalmic solution used for the reduction of elevated intraocular pressure in glaucoma or ocular hypertension patients. It is a combination of two active ingredients, brimonidine tartrate and timolol maleate in concentration of 0.2% and 0.5%, respectively. The former belongs to the class of alpha adrenergic receptor agonists and the latter to the beta adrenergic receptor blockers. Both these ingredients when combined produce a better pressure reducing effect than either of them on their own. Combigan eye drops are sterile when open and it is recommended that you discard the solution within four weeks after opening the bottle to avoid contamination. Also, care should be taken while administering these drops that one should not touch the surface of the dropper to avoid contamination of the eye drops. The container should be protected from direct light. Since these are eye drops, do not administer the same orally.
