Basic Information on Condylox
Condylox is a topical gel/solution used applied on the skin to treat genital warts, present on the external skin of the vagina and penis. These genital warts are generally caused by one form of the human papillomavirus. Condylox is also used to treat warts present on the skin between the rectum and the genitals. The exact mechanism of action of brand or generic Condylox is not known till date but it is known to prevent growth of certain types of cells. The gel can be used to treat the genital warts; however, it is not a permanent cure for the same. Apply the medication as prescribed by your doctor. Avoid applying large amounts around the affected area since it may irritate normal skin. Prevent contact with mucous membrane and eyes, and wash off your hands immediately after application. Condylox or Podofilox can cause harmful effects if applied at areas other than the infected site or when applied at larger than required doses. The frequency and recommended method of application should not exceed the prescribed limits. Avoid having unprotected sex as skin infections can spread easily. Application of Podofilox will not help in curing sexually transmitted diseases like herpes, HIV, syphilis, etc.
Several side effects are observed with the use of brand or generic Condylox. Majority of the side effects observed were headache, inflammation, skin burning, erosion, pain, itching and bleeding. If bleeding occurs, it is advisable to inform your doctor immediately. Some of the less frequently observed side effects include stinging, erythema, dryness, ulceration, tingling, blisters and rash.
Condylox Dosage
A one-week cycle is followed for applying Condylox. The Condylox drug can be applied 2 times daily for 3 consecutive days. This application then has to be discontinued for 4 days. This cycle is then repeated depending on requirement or for a maximum of 4 cycles. However, if no sign of improvement or complete recovery is obtained, consider using alternate methods. Condylox gel or solution 0.5% is applied with the help of the applicator tip or finger. It is advisable to limit the periphery of application to 10 cm2 or less and limit the dosage to less than or equal to 0.5 g of the gel daily.
