Signs of pain, burning or redness at the site of injection should be immediately reported to the doctor. Dactinomycin should be used with care in patients younger than 6 months old or in elderly patients. Some fatalities are reported when brand or generic Cosmegen is administered in patients already infected with chickenpox or herpes zoster. Cosmegen is not available for oral administration. The normal dose for Cosmegen Lyovac intravenous injection is 500 micrograms daily for a maximum of 5 days. The dose for brand or generic Cosmegen varies according to the severity of the disease and should be calculated accordingly. The dosage also depends on the tolerance of the patient. It is advised that for a two-week cycle for adults and pediatric patients, the dose should not exceed 15 mcg/kg/day or 400-600 mcg/m2/day.
