General Information on Desogen
Desogen is an oral contraceptive indicated to prevent pregnancy in women. The medication is a combination of two naturally occurring hormones, estrogen and progestin, found in a woman’s body.
Ethinyl Estradiol and Desogestrel are the two main active ingredients in the drug. Ethinyl Estradiol belongs to a family of drugs known as estrogen, while Desogestrel belongs to a family of drugs known as progestogens. The drug works by stopping the ovulation process by way of hormonal changes.
Ethinyl Estradiol and Desogestrel change the consistency of the cervical mucus to block the entry of sperm in the uterus. The drug also changes the lining of the uterus, making it less suitable for the attachment of the embryo.
Desogen is available in the form of a tablet. The drug is available in a 28 pill pack. 21 pills (white colored) in the pack contain active ingredients, and 7 pills (green colored) in the pack do not contain any active ingredient.
