Diacomit is an anticonvulsant drug and is used for treating epilepsy. This drug is not related to other anticonvulsants and it belongs to the class of aromatic allylic alcohols. It has been proved that the Diacomit drug may cause an increase in GABA intensity in brain tissues. It also is used for improving the effectiveness of other anticonvulsants. This may be due to the factor that Diacomit tend to inhibit certain enzymes. Precautions/Side Effects For Diacomit
Diacomit may lead to an increase in plasma accumulation of other anticonvulsants. This property may cause certain side effects. Stitipentol is the main ingredient of this drug and may interact with other drugs including anticonvulsants. It is also known to increase the potency of certain drugs such as Primidone and Phenobarbital. Any side effect occurring due to the increase in potency may be reversed by reducing the dosage of such other drug. In some patients, brand or generic Diacomit may cause anorexia. You may also suffer from weight loss, drowsiness and insomnia. The drug may also lead to hypotonia and dystonia.
You should not use this drug if you are allergic to Stitipentol. You should inform your physician if you suffer or have suffered from psychoses or from delirium. If used in conjunction with sodium valproate , brand or generic Diacomit may induce vomiting or nausea. This drug is not very effective in treating refractory epilepsy in adolescents and adults.

Diacomit is available in gelatin capsule form. It comes in 250mg and 500mg potency. The drug is also available in the powder form, which is then used for making a drinkable suspension. The sachets of powder are also available in 250mg and 500mg sizes. The recommended dosage of the drug is 50mg/kg per day. However, you should consult your doctor for personal dosage based on your requirements and condition. Diacomit should be taken with meals. Based on the dosage, it may be taken twice or thrice a day. If you are taking any other anticonvulsants, then you should consult your physician. Your doctor may have to reduce the dosage of other anticonvulsants.
