General Information on Diprolene Ointment

Diprolene Ointment is indicated for the treatment of inflammation due to certain skin conditions like contact dermatitis, allergic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, and plaque psoriasis. The generic name of this drug is Betamethasone Dipropionate. As it is a prescription-based drug, you need a doctor’s prescription to buy Diprolene Ointment.

This drug is available in only one strength, Diprolene Ointment 0.5%. What this basically means that the concentration of betamethasone dipropionate, the active ingredient in the preparation, is 0.5%. Each ml of Diprolene Ointment contains 0.5 mg of betamethasone dipropionate. This drug also contains the following inert ingredients: white wax, propylene glycol stearate, white petrolatum, and propylene glycol.

Diprolene Ointment is meant for dermatologic use only. This drug is not meant for oral, intravaginal, or ophthalmic use.

Side effects of Diprolene Ointment

Diprolene Ointment may cause a few side effects. The side effects of this drug, both in number and intensity, vary from patient to patient. Some patients may experience severe side effects, while others may experience no side effects at all. To better understand the risks this drug can present to you, speak to your doctor about it before starting treatment.

The most common side effects of Diprolene Ointment are: skin redness, skin itching, blistering skin, stretch marks, or thinning of the skin. In addition to these, other known side effects of Diprolene Ointment are: uneven heartbeat, insomnia, weight gain, puffiness of the face, tiredness, or mood changes. If any of the aforementioned side effects occur during treatment and cause discomfort, you should consult your doctor at once.

Dosage of Diprolene Ointment

The recommended dosage is a thin film of Diprolene Ointment applied topically on the affected area once or twice daily. To prevent the drug from entering your eyes, mouth, or nose, wash your hands thoroughly before and after administering the drug.

You should store Diprolene Ointment at 20°-30°C. Keep the drug away from children and bright light and moisture.
