Epivir Oral Solution is used for treating HIV in children and adults. It is given to a patient along with anti-retroviral drugs.
The generic name of the drug is Lamivudine, and it falls under the category of nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors. You can buy Epivir Oral Solution in the form of a liquid solution which has to be taken orally.
Epivir Oral Solution prevents HIV cells from multiplying and spreading inside the patient’s body. It cannot cure the disease, but can only help one enjoy a longer and better life by keeping HIV symptoms under control.
Side effects of Epivir Oral Solution
Before you buy Epivir Oral Solution, inform your doctor if you have diabetes, trouble swallowing, low white blood cell count, obesity, heart problems, dehydration, low blood pressure, cerebrovascular disease, nervous system disorder, seizures, dementia, coronary artery disease, or heart failure. Patients suffering from any of these conditions may be more vulnerable to suffering from the serious side effects of Epivir Oral Solution.
The drug may also make you more susceptible to a heat stroke. Therefore, you should avoid getting overheated due to excessive physical activity or using a hot tub. Try to stay in an air-conditioned area, wear light clothing, and drink plenty of liquids during treatment.
While you are using Epivir Oral Solution, you may commonly experience blurred vision, tiredness, excessive drooling or increased saliva production, lightheadedness, vomiting, dizziness, nausea, weight gain, drowsiness, or constipation. Although these are minor side effects of the drug, you should inform your doctor immediately if any of these worsen or persist.
Seek medical attention immediately if you suffer from increased depression, anxiety, trouble swallowing, fainting, muscle spasms, mask-like facial expressions, swelling of the feet or ankles, extreme weakness, tremors, or suicidal thoughts.
In some cases, Epivir Oral Solution may lead to tardive dyskinesia in patients. Symptoms of this condition include uncontrolled movements of the arms, legs, tongue, face, or mouth.
Some patients may also suffer from neuroleptic malignant syndrome, the symptoms of which are increased sweating, decreased or increased urination, fast heartbeat, muscle stiffness, confusion, and fever. Notify your doctor at once if you experience any of the above mentioned symptoms.
Some hypersensitive patients may also develop an allergic reaction after taking Epivir Oral Solution. Therefore, you should watch out for symptoms of an allergy, especially if you are using it for the first time. Symptoms of an allergy include hives, severe dizziness, difficulty breathing, or facial swelling or itching. Inform your doctor immediately if you have any of these symptoms.
Dosage of Epivir Oral Solution
Each ml of Epivir Oral Solution contains 10mg of Lamivudine. Adults will be recommended to take Epivir Oral Solution 300mg per day, either as a single dose or as two equally divided doses.
In pediatric patients, Epivir Oral Solution 4mg/kg is recommended twice a day. However, the total amount of the drug should not exceed 150mg twice a day.
You can take Epivir Oral Solution with or without meals. Try to take the medication at almost the same time each day.
