General Information on Ergodryl
Ergodryl is used to prevent migraines or other kinds of vascular headaches. The active ingredient in the drug is Ergotamine, and it falls under the class of vascular headache suppressants.
Ergodryl is available in the form of oral capsules. It interacts with neurotransmitter receptors in the patient’s brain, stimulates the vascular smooth muscles, constricts the veins and arteries, and depresses the vasomotor centers of the brain. In this way, a headache is prevented.
Side effects of Ergodryl
You should not buy Ergodryl if you have an allergy to Ergotamine or if you are suffering from glaucoma, Raynaud’s disease, coronary artery disease, luetic arteritis, severe arteriosclerosis, thrombophlebitis, or any other occlusive vascular disease. You should also inform your doctor if you suffer from hepatic disease, sepsis, hypertension, angina pectoris, peptic ulcers, renal disease, malnutrition, an infection, or severe pruritus. In such conditions, your doctor may need to conduct special tests before asking you to buy Ergodryl.
In some cases, a patient may develop peripheral vascular complications during Ergodryl treatment. Symptoms of such a condition include muscle cramps, numbness, pain, or chills in the extremities. Pregnant women should not take Ergodryl as it may harm their unborn baby.
Since the generic drugs in Ergodryl stimulate the chemoreceptor trigger zone in the patient’s body, he/she may experience vomiting and nausea during treatment. Peripheral vasoconstriction as a result of the medication may also result in decreased blood flow to certain organs, an increase in peripheral vascular resistance, and an increase in blood pressure.
Ergodryl also has caffeine, which may interfere with your sleeping patterns. Other common side effects of the drug include tingling or numbness in the toes, fingers or face, skin itching, weakness in the legs, dry mouth, dizziness, diarrhea, nervousness, or restlessness. These are mild side effects of the drug, but you should inform your doctor if any of these persist or worsen.
Some serious side effects associated with Ergodryl include violet or red blisters on the skin, lower abdominal pain, fainting, rectal discomfort, pain in the calves or heels, vision changes, muscle pain, pounding in the ears, unusual tiredness, or a weak pulse. Seek medical attention immediately if you develop any of these symptoms.
Some hypersensitive patients may suffer from an allergic reaction to Ergodryl. Symptoms of an allergy include hives, severe dizziness, facial swelling, or difficulty breathing. Stop taking the medicine and inform your doctor immediately if you develop any of these symptoms.
Dosage of Ergodryl
Take one Ergodryl capsule when you experience the first symptoms of a vascular headache. You can take another capsule after 30 minutes if the symptoms do not subside. Your doctor will advise you not to take more than 6 capsules in a period of 24 hours. The number of capsules should not exceed 10 capsules a week. If Ergodryl is prescribed for an adolescent, only 2 capsules (at most) are to be given for a vascular headache. If your attack is not relieved even after taking the maximum recommended dosage, you should inform your doctor about the same, as he/she may then need to change the medication altogether or make some dosage adjustments.
