General Information on Eryc

Eryc is used for the prevention and treatment of certain bacterial infections, including Legionnaires’ disease, non-gonococcal urethritis, acute pelvic inflammatory disease, intestinal amebiasis, syphilis, erythrasma, diphtheria, pertussis, and listeriosis.

The generic name of the drug is Erythromycin, and it falls under the class of macrolide antibiotics. Eryc is available in the form of oral capsules.

Eryc stops the growth and spread of bacteria in the body, thus treating the bacterial infection. It is meant only for bacterial infections, so you should not buy Eryc to treat a viral or yeast infection.

Side effects of Eryc

Before you buy Eryc, inform you doctor if you have an allergy to Erythromycin or any other antibiotic. Also inform him/her if you are suffering from a kidney or liver disease, heart problem (e.g. heart failure), muscle disease (e.g. myasthenia gravis), QT prolongation in EKG, slow heartbeat, or if your family has a history of sudden cardiac death. In such circumstances, your doctor may need to conduct some special tests or make some necessary dosage adjustments. Breastfeeding mothers should also not use Eryc as it may pass into breast milk and harm the nursing baby.

Elderly patients should use Eryc with caution, as serious side effects are more likely to occur in their cases, especially when they suffer from hearing loss and irregular heartbeat. If you have low magnesium or potassium levels in your blood, you may be more susceptible to suffering from QT prolongation as a side effect of Eryc.

Some common side effects associated with Eryc include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain and cramping, heartburn, and loss of appetite. Although these are mild side effects of the drug, you should seek medical help if any of these become intolerable.

Inform your doctor immediately if you suffer from severe dizziness, fainting, mouth sores, persistent nausea or vomiting, severe abdominal or stomach pain, unusual weakness, dark urine, yellowing of the eyes or skin, muscle weakness, hearing loss, seizures, or fast or irregular heartbeat after taking Eryc. These may be signs of a serious underlying condition, and you need to get them treated as soon as possible.

In rare instances, Eryc may lead to clostridium difficile associated diarrhea, a serious intestinal condition. Symptoms of this condition include blood or mucus in the stools, stomach or abdominal pain or cramping, and persistent diarrhea. Inform your doctor immediately if you suffer from any of these symptoms during Eryc treatment.

Some patients may suffer from an allergy to Eryc, the signs of which include hives, facial swelling, difficulty breathing, or severe dizziness. Seek medical help if you have any of these symptoms and if they do not subside even after discontinuing the medication.

Dosage of Eryc

Your doctor may advise you to take Eryc 250mg four times a day or Eryc 500mg twice a day. You should take the drug on an empty stomach, but if you experience nausea, you can take it along with food or milk.

Swallow the Eryc capsule whole without crushing, breaking, or chewing it. Try to take the drug at almost the same time each day.
