General Information on Eskalith CR
Eskalith CR is used to treat manic episodes in patients suffering from manic depression. Symptoms of such a condition include rushed speech, reduced sleep, hyperactivity, aggression, anger, or poor judgment. Apart from treating these symptoms, Eskalith CR can also prevent manic episodes or decrease their intensity.
The generic name of the drug is Lithium Carbonate ER, and it falls under the category of antimanic agents. Eskalith CR is available in the form of oral capsules.
The medication affects the flow of sodium in the patient’s nerve cells and muscles, thereby curbing excitation or mania.
Side effects of Eskalith CR
Before you buy Eskalith CR, you must inform your doctor if you are suffering from a heart or kidney disease, seizures, urinary problem, underactive thyroid, severe dehydration, Parkinson’s disease, psoriasis, leukemia, or any other infection accompanied by high fever.
As the drug may increase your risk of suffering from a heat stroke, you should avoid becoming overheated due to a hot bath, strenuous physical activity or exercise, or a sauna. Elderly patients should use this drug with caution, as it may affect their nervous system, thyroid, kidneys, or muscles. Breastfeeding mothers and pregnant women should also not use Eskalith CR as it may adversely affect their unborn child or breastfeeding infant.
Eskalith CR can give rise to mild tremors in the hands, mild nausea, weakness, stomach pain or upset, vomiting, loss of appetite, thinning or drying of hair, lack of coordination, or skin itchiness. Although these are mild side effects of the drug, you should inform your doctor if any of these worsen or persist.
Seek medical help immediately if you suffer from hallucinations, seizures, lightheadedness, vision problems, restlessness, decreased or increased urination, eye pain, discoloration of the fingers or toes, or abnormal movements of the eyes, tongue, jaw, or neck. In order to minimize lightheadedness, rise slowly from a sitting or lying position.
In certain cases, Eskalith CR may also lead to lithium toxicity, the symptoms of which are nausea, diarrhea, drowsiness, vomiting, muscle weakness, ringing in the ears, blurred vision, tremors, or lack of coordination. Inform your doctor right away if you experience any of these symptoms so that they can be treated before they become unmanageable.
The signs of an allergy to Eskalith CR include hives, severe dizziness, difficulty breathing, or swelling or itching of the face, throat, lips, or tongue. Discontinue using the drug and seek medical help immediately if you suffer from any of these symptoms.
Dosage of Eskalith CR
Patients suffering from acute mania will be advised to buy Eskalith CR 1800mg per day. For long-term use, Eskalith CR 900mg to 1200mg per day will be sufficient.
Drink lots of fluids during Eskalith CR treatment so that you do not become dehydrated.
Since these are extended release capsules, you have to swallow Eskalith CR whole, without crushing, breaking, or chewing it. Doing so otherwise this may result in the release of too much of the drug at one time in your body, which can increase your susceptibility to side effects.
