Basic Information On Eucreas
Eucreas tablets are a combination of two active ingredients: vildagliptin and metformin. Metformin belongs to a group of antidiabetic medication called biguanide. It helps in decreasing the sugar level in the blood. It not only helps in reducing the level of sugar produced by liver cells, it also helps in increasing the sensitivity of the muscle cells towards insulin. This substance also helps in delaying sugar absorption from the intestines into the bloodstream after having a meal. Vildagliptin belongs to the category of antidiabetic medication called dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. It works by preventing the breakdown of two incretin hormones, glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and reduces the sugar level in blood. It is a prescription medicine.
Precautions/Side Effects For Eucreas
The use of Eucreas (Metformin, Vildagliptin) can cause Hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose condition). If you have low blood sugar, you may find it difficult to concentrate or react and this can cause difficulty while driving or operating machinery. Brand or generic Eucreas can also cause dizziness. If you are taking Metformin and Vildagliptin, avoid consumption of alcohol as it can increase your chances of contracting lactic acidosis and hypoglycaemia.
You should monitor the functioning of your kidneys regularly if you are taking brand or generic Eucreas. Other side effects of taking the Eucreas drug are nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, fatigue, dark urine, loss of appetite or jaundice. Your doctor may tell you to discontinue your treatment if you are going to get an X-ray done. You should start taking this medicine only 48 hours after the X-ray and once functioning of your kidneys has been tested and is found to be normal. Since the safety of this drug has not been established during pregnancy, you should consult your doctor before taking Eucreas if you are pregnant or plan to get pregnant.
Eucreas Dosage
Depending on your existing dosage of metformin, Eucreas can be taken at 50 mg/850 mg or 50 mg/1000 mg strength 2 times every day (one tablet in the morning and one in the evening). Generally doctors recommend 100 mg of vildagliptin and 2000 mg of metformin hydrochloride to be taken daily. Those who take these two medicines separately can switch to Eucreas as it contains both the components. However, dosage higher than 100 mg of vildagliptin is not recommended.
