Basic Information On Exforge
Exforge is a calcium channel blocker (CCB) belonging to the class of the drugs called dihydropyridine. The drug is used in the treatment and management of hypertension. It is a combination of two drugs that is effectively used particularly in patients who do not respond to monotherapy or whose blood pressure cannot be controlled adequately with monotherapy. Being a CCB the drug acts by inhibiting calcium ion influx into the smooth muscles of the heart (vascular and cardiac muscles). Calcium ions are responsible for the contraction of smooth muscles. The blockage of this activity in-turn results in relaxation of the smooth muscles, selectively the cardiac muscles. Brand or generic Exforge also reduces the peripheral resistance in the heart and therefore reduces the blood pressure.
