Basic Information On Exjade
The drug is an iron chelator that is administered orally as it is active only when it is administered orally. Exjade is used in the treatment of increased chronic iron over-load. The drug is used in patients who have received transfusional hemosiderosis which means blood transfusion for a long period of time for medical conditions such as chronic anemia or beta thalassemia. The drug acts by binding to trivalent iron in the body and thus it forms a stable complex. These complexes are eliminated through the kidneys. Thus, brand of generic Exjade is used in the treatment of iron toxicity. The drug reduces the amount of ferric/iron that is circulating in the body.
