Basic Information On Extavia
Extavia is an interferon drug. It is a naturally occurring protein synthesized in response to any viral infections (and/or biologic agents) by the eukarotic cells. The interferon helps in fighting against viral infections. The drug is used in the treatment of multiple sclerosis which relapses or recurs. It helps in reducing the frequency of exacerbations, especially in patients with first episode of multiple sclerosis. The precise mode of action of the drug is not known.
However, the brand or generic Extavia does not allow the immune cell activation (which attacks the myelin). Also, it induces suppression of the inflammatory cytokines production, which increases the inflammatory responses and thus the cytokines damage the myelin. The drug modulates the immune system and thus reduces the damage caused by inflammation.
