Basic Information On Exubera
Exubera is a rapid acting, powered human insulin which is genetically engineered (recombinant human insulin). The drug is used in adults for the treatment and management of type-1 and type-2 diabetes and is approved by the US FDA (Food and Drug Administration). In patients with type-1 diabetes the drug is used as a combination therapy along with other intermediate-acting or long-acting insulin types. In adult with type-2 diabetes brand or generic Exubera is used in patients whose diabetes is not controlled with orally administered anti-hyperglycemic drugs alone. Also it is used for insulin therapy in patients with type-2 diabetes who require insulin therapy. The drug when inhaled gets deposited into the lungs and then is absorbed in the body. Like the subcutaneous insulin Exubera drug also acts by inhibiting the glucose production by the liver. Thus, it results in reduction of the blood glucose levels.
