General Information on Flovent Inhaler
Flovent Inhaler is used for preventing attacks of bronchial asthma. Its generic name is Fluticasone Inhalation, and it belongs to the class of corticosteroids.
Flovent Inhaler is available in the form of an inhaler and comes with an inhalation device. It works by reducing inflammation in the patient’s airways, which may be caused due to irritants or allergens in the air.
Flovent Inhaler is used only for preventing an attack. As such, it cannot treat an already triggered attack.
Side effects of Flovent Inhaler
Before you buy Flovent Inhaler, you should inform your doctor if you have an allergy to it or to any other corticosteroids. Also tell him or her if you are sick or have any kind of infection at present. You have to be completely well before starting treatment with Flovent Inhaler.
This drug is not meant to be given to children less than 4 years of age as it may affect their growth significantly. Inform your doctor if your child is using Flovent Inhaler and if he or she is not growing at a normal rate.
Using a steroid for a long time may lead to osteoporosis or bone loss in some patients, especially if you are deficient in calcium and vitamin D, if you heavily smoke, or if you do not follow an exercise regime. Also inform your doctor if your family has a history of osteoporosis. In such a situation, you may have increased chances of developing osteoporosis due to the drug.
Some common side effects associated with Flovent Inhaler include headache, sores or white patches inside the mouth or on the lips, stuffy nose, dryness in the mouth, throat, or nose, hoarseness, sinus pain, deepened voice, or cough. These are temporary side effects of Flovent Inhaler and subside as your body adjusts to the medicine. However, seek medical help if any of these symptoms become too bothersome.
Seek immediate medical attention if you suffer from serious side effects of the drug. Such side effects include weakness, vomiting, nausea, tiredness, skin rash, severe tingling, bruising, numbness, muscle weakness, pain, blurred vision, seeing halos around lights, eye pain, flu symptoms, ear pain, throat soreness, chills, fever, wheezing, breathing problems, or worsening symptoms of asthma. These may be signs of some serious underlying condition and need to be treated as soon as possible.
Some hypersensitive patients may develop an allergic reaction to Flovent Inhaler. Symptoms of an allergy include severe dizziness, difficulty breathing, facial swelling, or hives. Inform your doctor immediately if you suffer from any of these symptoms.
Dosage of Flovent Inhaler
Initially, you will be advised to use Flovent Inhaler 88mcg twice a day. The maximum dosage a patient can take is Flovent Inhaler 440mcg to 880mcg twice daily.
You cannot buy Flovent Inhaler to treat an already triggered attack. To treat such an attack, your doctor may advise you to take any other drug apart from Flovent Inhaler.
Flovent Inhaler is the liquid form of Fluticasone, which you have to use by way of an inhaler device. The spray formed in this device has to be inhaled via the mouth.
Do not forget to rinse your mouth after inhaling Flovent Inhaler, as failure to do so may cause an oral yeast infection. Make sure that you do not swallow the water you use for rinsing your mouth.
Pharmacist Notes: Flovent inhaler 50, 125, and 250 are equivalent to 44mcg, 110mcg and 220mcg respectively in the USA. The amount of medicine delivered is identical. The strength is simply measured at a different point in the device.
