General Information on Floxin
Floxin is used for curbing the development of bacteria that cause severe conditions such as pneumonia, bronchitis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, skin infections, prostate infections, or urinary tract infections.
The generic name of the drug is Ofloxacin, and it belongs to the category of fluoroquinolone antibiotics.
Floxin is available in the form of oral tablets. It works by fighting the bacteria responsible for causing the suspected medical condition.
Your doctor will recommend you to buy Floxin only for treating bacterial infections. The drug is ineffective against viral or yeast infections.
Side effects of Floxin
Do not buy Floxin if you have an allergy to Ofloxacin or any other fluoroquinolone antibiotic. Also do not use it if you have a history of myasthenia gravis, or if you are suffering from liver or kidney disease, joint problem, diabetes, epilepsy, seizures, hypokalemia, or Long QT syndrome.
One of the most noticeable side effects of Floxin is that it may sometimes lead to tendon damage such as tendonitis or tendon rupture. This possibility is higher if you are over 60 years of age, if you had a heart, lung, or kidney transplant, or if you take corticosteroids like prednisone. Symptoms of such a condition include pain or swelling in the joints, muscles, or tendons. Seek medical help immediately if you develop such symptoms.
Patients suffering from myasthenia gravis should not take this drug, as it may lead to worsening of the condition. Inform your doctor immediately if you suffer from breathing trouble or muscle weakness during Floxin treatment.
If you have low magnesium or potassium levels in your blood, you may be more susceptible to suffering from QT prolongation. Diabetic patients may also experience changes in their blood glucose levels. Inform your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms of decreased or increased blood sugar.
Floxin may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun. Therefore, avoid direct exposure to sunlamps and sunlight and do not use tanning booths. Do not forget to wear the appropriate clothes for protection against sunlight and apply sunscreen before going out during Floxin treatment.
Stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, headache, lightheadedness, or insomnia may be commonly experienced by Floxin patients. However, inform your doctor immediately if any of these become intolerable.
Some serious side effects associated with Floxin include shaking, hallucinations, nervousness, suicidal thoughts, confusion, unsteadiness, persistent vomiting or nausea, seizures, hearing changes, vision problems, persistent headache, decreased or increased urination, easy bruising or bleeding, or fainting.
In rare cases, Floxin may lead to serious nerve problems in the patient. Symptoms of such a condition include changes in the senses of pain, touch, and temperature, weakness, tingling, burning, numbness, or pain in any body part.
Dosage of Floxin
You will usually be advised to take Floxin 200 to 400mg twice a day.
If you are also taking antacids or mineral or vitamin supplements, maintain a gap of at least 2 hours between them and Floxin as these drugs may hamper the effectiveness of Ofloxacin.
You can take Floxin with or without meals. Try to take it at almost the same time each day. Drink lots of fluids during Floxin treatment, as the drug may cause dehydration in some patients.
