General Information on Fragmin Injection
Fragmin Injection is used for preventing blood clotting in patients suffering from a heart attack or certain types of chest pain or angina. It is also used to prevent deep vein thrombosis, which may lead to a pulmonary embolism. Fragmin Injection is also given to cancer patients for treating certain types of blood clots known as venous thromboembolism.
Pulmonary embolism refers to blood clotting in the lungs. It usually surfaces in patients who have undergone certain surgical procedures or those who have been advised bed rest due to a prolonged illness.
The generic name of Fragmin Injection is Dalteparin, and it belongs to the class of anticoagulants or blood thinners. It is given to a patient in the form of an injection. Fragmin Injection works by curbing the activities of clotting proteins in your blood so that blood can flow more easily and is less susceptible to clot formation.
Side effects of Fragmin Injection
Before you buy Fragmin Injection, inform your doctor if you have an allergy to Dalteparin, pork products, or heparin. Also inform him or her if you have a bleeding disorder, artificial heart valves, diabetic retinopathy, liver or kidney disease, high blood pressure, low platelet count, stomach or intestinal problem, stroke, spinal problem, or have recently undergone a spinal puncture or procedure or recent eye, spinal cord, or brain surgery.
Limit alcohol intake during treatment with Fragmin Injection, as it may increase your risks of suffering from stomach bleeding.
As the drug increases your risk of heavy bleeding, you should avoid being injured during treatment. Use a soft toothbrush for your teeth, only an electric razor for shaving, and avoid using or handle sharp objects such as knives, scissors, or nail cutters with extreme caution.
Pain, bruising, or irritation at the site of the injection may commonly occur. Inform your doctor if this symptom becomes too troublesome or uncontrollable.
Fragmin Injection may lead to bleeding if the effects of the drug on your blood clotting proteins are too strong. Inform your doctor if prolonged or unusual bleeding, easy bruising or unusual swelling, discomfort, or pain surfaces during treatment.
Serious side effects of the drug include dark urine, severe headache, black stools, vision changes, confusion, unusual dizziness, seizures, vision changes, numbness, weakness, or fainting. Seek medical help immediately if any of these occur.
Dosage of Fragmin Injection
The dosage of Fragmin Injection is determined as per a patient’s weight. Patients with non-Q-wave myocardial infarction or unstable angina are given Fragmin Injection 120IU per kg of weight, not exceeding 10,000 IU.
The injection is administered subcutaneously.
Drug Interactions of Fragmin Injection
Do not buy Fragmin Injection if you have recently used or are currently using NSAIDs (e.g. ibuprofen, etodolac or ketoprofen), salicylates (e.g. tricosal or novasal) or drugs such as heparin, dextran, cilostazol, dipyridamole, bivalirudin, urokinase or enoxaparin. These may lead to blood clotting around the spinal cord or brain, which can lead to dangerous side effects or medical conditions.
