Frova is indicated for treating acute or severe migraine in adults. Migraine lasts many hours and its symptoms are severe headache, sensitivity to light and aura (flashes, wavy vision). The list of possible causes of migraine is rather long and includes stress at workplace or home, hot weather, odors, tight pony tails, tight hats or headbands, stale or old cheese, poor sitting posture, smoking or hunger. In some people, even sex or exercise may cause migraines. Women are more prone to migraine. Frovatriptan is a member of a class of medicines known as selective serotonin receptor agonists. Frova drug acts by narrowing the blood vessels around the brain and reducing the substances in the body which trigger migraines.
Precautions / Side Effects for Frova
Frovatriptan, the main ingredient is meant for treating a headache that has started already. It is not meant for preventing an attack. You should take the drug only if your headache has been diagnosed as migraine and under prescription. Do not take brand or generic Frova if you have taken some other medicine for migraine in the last 24 hours. You may get your first dose in a hospital or clinic to enable the physician to observe any adverse reactions. Note that heart condition, angina, stroke, ischemic bowel disorder, cerebrovascular conditions are contra indications for this drug.
Some of the side effects of brand or generic frovatriptan are, numbness in only one side of the body, heaviness, dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, indigestion, pain in bones or joints. In rare cases, chest pain, increased blood pressure or stroke has been noticed while using brand or generic Frova. Consult your doctor immediately. Frova drug may affect the fetus because of which, it is safer to discuss with your doctor, if you are pregnant.
Frova Dosage
Take one full tablet of brand or generic Frova (frovatriptan 2.5 mg) with one full glass of water or any other fluid or as directed by your doctor. If the symptoms do not improve or if the attack happens again, you may take one more tablet after two hours. The maximum recommended dose over 24 hour duration is three and should not be exceeded. If on an average, more than four migraine attacks occur in a month; your doctor will assess benefits against possible safety related issues before continuing brand or generic Frova.
