General Information on Gelnique Gel

Gelnique Gel is used for treating symptoms of overactive bladder, including urgent or frequent urination, incontinence, or urine leakage. The active ingredient in this medicine is Oxybutynin. It belongs to a class of drugs referred as muscarinic antagonists.

Gelnique Gel works by reducing muscle spasms in the bladder and the urinary tract. It is available in the form of a colorless, quick-drying topical gel.

Side effects of Gelnique Gel

Do not buy Gelnique Gel if you have a known hypersensitivity to any ingredient used in it or if you have any of the following conditions: uncontrolled or untreated narrow-angle glaucoma, blockage in your stomach, intestines, or digestive tract, or decreased urination.

Your doctor may ask you to undergo some special tests if you are suffering from liver or kidney disease, bladder obstruction, myasthenia gravis, severe constipation, stomach disorder such as slow digestion or GERD, or intestinal problems such as ulcerative colitis. Inform your doctor beforehand if you have any of these medical conditions.

During treatment, avoid becoming dehydrated or over-heated due to hot weather or exercise. Drink lots of fluids in order to prevent dehydration during Gelnique Gel treatment.

Some common side effects associated with the drug include: dizziness, tiredness, drowsiness, dry mouth, blurred vision, headache, constipation, diarrhea, stomach cramps, vomiting, or nausea. Some patients may also develop cold symptoms like sore throat, stuffy nose, and sneezing. Although these side effects can be easily managed with or without medical help, it is best that you inform your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms.

Seek immediate medical help if you experience any of these severe side effects: skin dryness along with fever, uneven heart beats, severe itching, pain, redness, rash or irritation at the application site, or pain while urinating.

Some patients may develop an allergic reaction to the medicine. Inform your doctor immediately if you develop hives, severe dizziness, difficulty breathing or swelling, or itching on throat, face, lips or tongue.

Dosage of Gelnique Gel

Each 1 gm sachet of Gelnique Gel contains 100mg of Oxybutynin chloride gel. Apply the contents of one sachet of the medicine once a day on your upper arms or shoulders, thighs or abdomen.

Do not shower, bathe, use hot tub, exercise, or swim for at least one hour after applying the medicine. Your doctor may advise you to cover the affected area with a cloth after applying the gel.

This medicine is meant for topical use only and should not be ingested. Take adequate precautions while administering Gelnique Gel to ensure that it does not enter your mouth, nose, lips, ears, or eyes. If this happens, wash the area thoroughly with water. If irritation persists, seek help from a poison control center or your doctor.

Drug Interactions of Gelnique Gel

Do not buy Gelnique Gel if you are already using urinary or bladder medicines (such as flavoxate or drifenacin), bronchodilators (such as tiotropium or ipratropium), irritable bowel medicines (such as hyoscyamine or dicyclomine) or other forms of Oxybutynin (such as Oxytrol or Ditropan). In addition, you should not use Gelnique Gel if you are taking medicines such as belladonna, atropine, mepenzolate, or glycopyrrolate.
