General Information on Fulvicin
Fulvicin is used for treating fungal infections of the hair, nails, or skin, such as athlete’s foot, barber’s itch, or jock itch. The active ingredient in the medicine is Griseofulvin.
Being an anti-fungal drug, Fulvicin works by acting against the fungus that is responsible for the infection.
Fulvicin is available in the form of oral tablets.
This medication is used only for treating fungal infections and is ineffective against bacterial or yeast infections.
Side effects of Fulvicin
Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Fulvicin if you have a liver disease, porphyria, or if you have an allergy to the drug.
If taken during pregnancy, Fulvicin may sometimes result in conjoined twins. Therefore, talk to your doctor before using Fulvicin during pregnancy.
Fulvicin may affect sperm production. Therefore, men are advised to try and avoid conceiving a child for at least 6 months into Fulvicin treatment.
As the drug may increase the sensitivity of you skin to the sun, you should avoid direct exposure to sunlight. If you need to go out, you must wear the appropriate clothes to protect your skin from the sun and apply sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15. Also avoid alcohol intake during Fulvicin treatment, as the combination of Griseofulvin and alcohol may lead to fast heart rate and flushing.
Some common side effects associated with Fulvicin include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headache, tiredness, dizziness, insomnia, tingling or numbness in the feet or hands, irregular menstrual periods, or confusion. Some patients may also develop white patches inside the mouth which may be signs of a yeast infection or oral thrush. These are mild side effects of the drug and can be easily managed with or without medical help. However, you should immediately notify your doctor if any of these become uncontrollable.
Some hypersensitive patients may suffer from an allergic reaction to Fulvicin. Symptoms of an allergy include hives, severe dizziness, swelling or itching of the face, throat, tongue, or lips, or difficulty breathing. Stop taking Fulvicin if you have any of these symptoms. Seek medical help if they persist even after discontinuing the medicine.
Dosage of Fulvicin
You can buy Fulvicin in 250mg and 500mg strengths. One Fulvicin 250mg or 500mg tablet is to be taken once a day. The dosage recommended to you depends on the type and severity of your fungal infection and your response to treatment.
Fulvicin is to be taken with a full glass of water. Your doctor may ask you to consume a fatty meal along with the drug so that it can be better absorbed by your body.
Take Fulvicin for the full period of prescription even if your symptoms improve quickly, as certain symptoms can wane much before the infection has been completely treated.
Drug Interactions of Fulvicin
Serious drug interactions can take place if you take Fulvicin along with oral anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin), salicylates (e.g. salsalate or aspirin) or cyclosporine.
Fulvicin may decrease the efficiency of birth control pills, lead to breakthrough bleeding, or result in an unwanted pregnancy. Therefore, it is better to use a barrier form of contraception during Fulvicin treatment.
