Basic Information On Hepsera
Hepsera is used for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. It is a nucleotide analog. Hepsera helps in slowing the growth of hepatitis B virus. Though it helps in reducing the level of hepatitis B virus in the body, it is not a cure for hepatitis B. Once you are taking the medicine, do not discontinue the use of Hepsera even for some time as this can lead to making the virus resistant to Hepsera. If you stop taking the medicine suddenly, you may be at a greater risk of developing serious liver problems. Hepsera does not help in stopping the spread of this virus to other people through sexual contact or blood.
Precautions/Side Effects For Hepsera
Hepsera (Adefovir) can cause fatal worsening of hepatitis if you stop taking the medicine suddenly. It is also to be noted that brand or generic Hepsera can cause severe kidney and liver problems. Therefore, you should let your doctor know if you have had kidney problems in the past before taking the Hepsera drug. If Adefovir is used by patients who are suffering from unknown or untreated HIV infections, it may cause some forms of HIV virus to become resistant to the treatment.
Adefovir can cause large amount of lactic acid in the blood. Side effects of taking brand or generic Hepsera are unusual fatigue or weakness, dark urine, light colored stools, yellowing of eyes or skin, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, muscle aches, drowsiness, weakness, lightheadedness, dizziness, coldness in legs or arms, irregular heartbeat or trouble in breathing. You should not take the medicine without consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to get pregnant. Though it is not known if Hepsera passes into breast-milk, you should not take this medicine if you are nursing your child.
