General Information on Humalog 75/25 Insulin Cartridge

Humalog 75/25 Insulin Cartridge is used for treating type 1 insulin dependent diabetes in adult diabetic patients. Usually, this medicine is given to the patient along with other long-acting forms of insulin.

Humalog 75/25 Insulin Cartridge contains 75% of Insulin Lispro Protamine Suspension, and 25% of Insulin Lispro Injection. Insulin lispro is one of the fast-acting forms of insulin, and insulin lispro protamine is an intermediate-acting insulin form.

The medicine is given to the patient through a subcutaneous injection.

Side effects of Humalog 75/25 Insulin Cartridge

Do not buy Humalog 75/25 Insulin Cartridge if you have a kidney or liver disease, or if you have allergy to insulin. Patients allergic to insulin can develop serious symptoms such as hives with itching on the entire body, trouble breathing, wheezing, sweating or fast heartbeats. Discontinue taking the medicine and inform your doctor immediately if you develop any of these symptoms and if they persist even after stopping the medicine.

The medicine will be given to you along with a complete treatment program. This program includes a diet plan, exercise regime, foot care, dental care, eye care, weight control and blood sugar tests to be taken regularly. If you do not stick to this program, your blood sugar level may get affected significantly.

Local area reaction can commonly occur, including swelling, itching, thickening or redness at the site of injection. Inform your doctor if oozing or excessive inflammation takes place at this area.

Sometimes, the medicine can cause your blood sugar level to go too low. Symptoms of such condition include seizures, fainting, fast heartbeat, rapid breathing, difficulty concentrating, irritability, tremors, sweating, weakness, hunger or headache. Take a glucose tablet or hard candy whenever you experience any of these symptoms. Inform your doctor if your symptoms do not improve even after taking a quick source of sugar.

In some cases, the medicine may also lead to hypokalemia, a condition in which potassium levels in your blood go too low. Symptoms of such condition include limp feeling, muscle weakness, leg discomfort, increased urination, extreme thirst, uneven heart rate or confusion. Seek medical attention immediately if you develop any of these symptoms.

Dosage of Humalog 75/25 Insulin Cartridge

Usually, your doctor will give you Humalog 75/25 Insulin Cartridge 0.3 U per kg of your body weight. The injection is given subcutaneously under the skin of the patient.

Each ml of Humalog 75/25 Insulin Cartridge contains 100 units of the medicine. Although its effects are same as those of a regular insulin injection, Humalog works more quickly but for a shorter period of time.

Drug Interactions of Humalog 75/25 Insulin Cartridge

Do not buy Humalog 75/25 Insulin Cartridge if you are already taking any other anti-diabetic medicines.

Also, you must inform your doctor if you have taking beta-blockers including atenolol, nadolol or carvedilol, or medicines such as reserpine, clonidine or albuterol. Serious drug interactions may occur if any of these drugs are taken together with Humalog 75 25 Insulin Cartridge.
