General Information on Isoniazid
An antibiotic, Isoniazid is indicated for the treatment of tuberculosis. This drug works by preventing the infection-causing bacteria from spreading within the body. You need a doctor’s prescription to buy Isoniazid.
Isoniazid is meant for oral administration only. It is available in form of oral tablets in strengths, Isoniazid 100 mg and Isoniazid 300 mg, and syrup that contains 50 mg of Isoniazid/teaspoon.
Side effects of Isoniazid

Dosage of Isoniazid
The recommended dosage in adults is Isoniazid 5mg per kg up to Isoniazid 300mg per day taken in a single dose or Isoniazid 15mg per kg up to Isoniazid 900mg per day, 2-3 times a week.
In addition to Isoniazid, your doctor is likely to recommend that you avoid certain foods and drinks (such as alcohol) during the course of your treatment. For best results, it is important that you take your medication exactly as prescribed and follow all instructions given by your doctor.
Interactions
Isoniazid is known to interact with various drugs. Names of some such drugs are:
- Warfarin
- Rifabutin or Rifampin
- Antifungal medicines such as itraconazole and ketoconazole
- Disulfiram
- Benzodiazepines such as lorazepam, temazepam, diazepam, alprazolam, and others
- Mephenytoin, phenytoin, and ethotoin
- Carbamazepine
- Cycloserine
- Ethionamide
- Theophylline
