General Information on Isopto Carbachol
Isopto Carbachol is used to treat open angle glaucoma by reducing the pressure in the eye. It is also used in eye surgery.
Carbachol, the main active ingredient in the medication belongs to a group of medicines known as parasympathomimetics. It works to reduce the amount of fluid within the eye by draining excess fluid. Lowering pressure inside the eye can help prevent blindness, nerve damage or vision loss.
Isopto Carbachol is available in the form of an ophthalmic solution. It is supplied in two strengths, 3% and 1.50% Carbachol ophthalmic solution. The drug is a prescription medication which means you should buy Isopto Carbachol and use it only if recommended by your doctor.
Side effects of Isopto Carbachol
All medicines have side effects. Isopto Carbachol may cause mild to severe side effects in some people. Mild or common side effects associated with the drug can be categorized into less common side effects and rare side effects. Some of the less common side effects associated with the drug includes twitching of the eyelids, headache, redness or irritation of eyes.
Some rare side effects associated with the drug include burning or stinging sensation in the eye, blurred vision, eye pain, or change in distance or near vision . Isopto Carbachol may also cause severe side effects in some people. Severe side effects are generally results of too much medication being absorbed in the blood. Dosage of Isopto Carbachol
Your doctor will give you specific instructions regarding the dosage. The dosage depends on the medical condition that is being treated and strength of the ophthalmic solution recommended in the treatment. Generally, the recommended doses to treat different medical conditions are as follows
- To treat glaucoma in adults and children- One drop in each eye, thrice daily.
- Recommended dose during surgery – up to 5 mL.

Interactions
