Janumet is basically an oral medication for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It should not be used for patients dependent on insulin or patients having type 1 diabetes. Patients who are inadequately controlled with exercise and diet can start with doses of 50 mg sitagliptin/500 mg metformin twice daily while those on metformin monotherapy can take 50 mg sitagliptin/1000 mg metformin twice daily. Those on sitagliptin monotherapy should take 50 mg sitagliptin/500 mg metformin twice daily.
