General Information on K Dur

K Dur is used to treat and prevent hypokalemia (low potassium levels in the blood) Potassium is required for several important functions that also includes beating of the heart.

Potassium Chloride, the main ingredient in the medication works to replenish the normal levels of potassium levels in the blood. K Dur is available in the form of a tablet.

You may buy K Dur if you have low potassium blood levels. However the drug may also cause severe side effects in some people, so to reduce the risk of side effects always use it after consulting your doctor.

Side effects of K Dur

K Dur may not be an ideal medication for people with specific medical problems. People with medical problems such as kidney failure, large tissue injury, hyperkalemia, adrenal gland disorder, and heart disease, blockage in intestines or stomach, chronic diarrhea should tell doctor about it before starting the treatment. Doctor may have to perform special tests or adjust the dosage to ensure the use of the drug is safe in these conditions.

You may also experience severe side effects such as uneven heartbeat, tingly feeling or numbness in your feet, hands or around your mouth, confusion, leg discomfort, bloody, tarry or black stools, after taking a dose of K Dur. Other severe side effects associated with the drug include severe stomach pain, muscle weakness, ongoing vomiting or diarrhea, limp feeling, coughing up blood, increased urination, anxiety, extreme thirst or vomit that look like coffee grounds.

Pregnant women, nursing mothers, women who plan to get pregnant should exercise caution regarding use of this drug. They should buy K Dur only after learning about the risks and benefits associated with the use of this drug from their doctor.

Dosage of K Dur

Your doctor will give you specific instructions regarding the dosage. You can take the K Dur tablet with or without food. Take the medication with a glass of water. Swallow the tablet whole, do not suck it as it may cause irritation in your throat.

If you are not able to swallow the tablet then you can dissolve it in 4 ounces of water and drink the suspension after the tablet fully disintegrates into it. Drink additional glass of water after drinking the solution in which K Dur was dissolved.

Interactions

K Dur may potentially interact with other medications you are using and cause side effects. It may interact with medications such as ACE inhibitors, Eplerenone, Quinidine, Digoxin, bronchodilators, or diuretics. To reduce the risk of side effects due to drug interactions, tell doctor about every medication you are using which includes prescription drugs, over the counter medications and herbal supplements.
