Basic Information On Keppra
Keppra is prescribed for treatment of three types of seizures ie., partial onset seizures, myoclonic seizures and primary generalized tonic and clonic seizures. It is an adjunctive, meaning auxiliary treatment. Levetiracetam is the main ingredient of this medicine. In the case of adults, it is recommended for all the three types. The age of the children is given within brackets when brand or generic Keppra is prescribed; Partial onset seizures (Children above 4 years), Myoclonic seizures (children above 12 years) and primary generalized tonic and clonic seizures (children above 6 years). Vesicles which are tiny structures inside neurons help pass on messages between the nerve cells through electrical signals. If the message transmission is too long or too frequent, the overload may result in a seizure. Keppra drug attaches itself to the SV2A molecules on the surface of vesicles. This is expected to reduce the frequency and duration of the message transmission and moderate the seizure.
