Lescol is a member of the statins class of drugs used to treat hypercholesterolemia and for prevention of cardiovascular diseases. It is an enzyme blocker and blocks the enzyme required for the production of cholesterol. The drug aids in reduction of LDL cholesterol levels in the blood, thereby reducing the risk of heart problems. It is prescribed to treat adults and children who are at least 10 years old when non-drug treatment options like diet and exercise have been unsuccessful in reducing the cholesterol levels. Lescol is known to slow plaque accumulation in arteries and are prescribed for people with coronary heart disease to reduce risk of undergoing surgical procedures.

Intake of the drug may create stomach upset accompanied by abdominal pain and indigestion. Inform your doctor if severe abdominal pain along with nausea and fatigue occurs. Lescol drug might affect tissues in the muscle due to presence of fluvastatin and hence consult a physician in case of muscle pain, tenderness or general weakness. The muscle damage caused can lead to possible kidney failure.
