Loprox Cream is prescribed for the treatment of skin infections caused by fungus and yeasts such as jock itch, athlete’s foot, and ringworm. The generic name of this drug is Ciclopirox Tropical. It is an antifungal medication and works by blocking the growth of infection-causing fungus.

Loprox Cream is meant for topical administration only. It is available in strength, Loprox Cream 0.77%. You need a doctor’s prescription to buy Loprox Cream as it is a prescription drug.

Side effects of Loprox Cream

Loprox Cream is not expected to cause serious side effects. With that said, you may experience mild redness, burning, or itching after using this topical cream. If any of these side effects are severe or persist for a long time, you must consult your doctor.

Some patients may experience a hypersensitivity reaction after they apply Loprox Cream. You should consult your doctor if you show following symptoms: severe swelling, burning, itching, redness, skin rashes, or hives. Do not buy Loprox Cream if you have a known hypersensitivity to this drug.

If you regularly use a steroid inhaler or topical corticosteroid, inform your doctor about it before starting treatment. In addition, tell your doctor, in advance, if you have a seizure disorder or are diabetic.

Loprox Cream comes under pregnancy category B drugs. Simply put, this drug is not expected to cause harm to an unborn child. However, if you are pregnant, consult your doctor before using this drug.

This drug may not be safe for a nursing child. If you are breastfeeding, you are advised to consult a doctor before using this topical cream.

When applying Loprox Cream to an infected skin area you should take necessary precautions to ensure that the drug does not enter your nose, eyes, or mouth. If it does, wash the affected part with water. It is recommended that you wash your hands before and after administering this topical cream.

Dosage of Loprox Cream

Your doctor will recommend you the correct dosage after studying the severity of your skin infection. Usually, patients are advised to apply Loprox Cream two times per day on the affected area. The recommended treatment period is 2-4 weeks. However, the prescribed treatment period may vary from patient to patient.

Loprox Cream may take some time to show positive results. That is why it is necessary that you continue using the drug as directed for full prescribed treatment period. However, you must consult your doctor if no positive results are seen after 4 weeks of use.

Do not stop the medication in between or reduce the dosage on your own, even if the infection heals completely before the prescribed treatment period is complete. Stopping or reducing the dosage may increase the risk of re-infection.

You should store Loprox Cream at room temperature between 20°-30°C away from heat, dust, and moisture.

Interactions

Although it is not likely, some drugs may interact with Loprox Cream. To ensure that this does not happen in your case, we recommend that you inform your doctor about all other drugs that you are taking. This includes all herbal, non-prescription, and prescription medicines. It is also important that you consult your doctor before starting a new medication while you are using Loprox Cream.
