General Information on Lupron Injection
Lupron Injection is used for treating prostate cancer in advanced stage. Active ingredient in the medicine is Leuprolide, and it belongs to the class of anti-neoplastic agents or synthetic nonapeptides.
The medicine is given to the patient in the form of a subcutaneous or intramuscular injection. It works by decreasing the production of testosterone in your body, so that cancer cells growth can be slowed down and stopped.
You must remember that this medicine is only used for relieving symptoms of the disease. It cannot cure it. This means that once you stop taking the medicine, your symptoms may come back.
Side effects of Lupron Injection
Inform your doctor about all the medical conditions you are suffering from. Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Lupron Injection if you have high blood pressure, blood in urine, inability to urinate, bone cancer affecting the spine, depression, kidney or heart disease, osteoporosis, recent weight gain, high cholesterol levels, diabetes, migraines, epilepsy or asthma.
Patients may commonly experience sleeping problems, memory problems, depression, impotence, loss of libido, testicle pain, joint or muscle pain, itching, scaling or redness in skin, chills, clammy skin, hot flashes, night sweats, diarrhea, stomach pain, constipation, nausea, increased growth of hair on face, weakness, tiredness, dizziness or acne after taking Lupron Injection.
Local area reaction may also take place, including redness, burning, stinging, pain or swelling at the site of injection.
Seek immediate medical help if you develop rapid weight gain, problems with balance or speech, weak pulse, chest pain, fainting, slow heart rate, vomiting, confusion, vision problems, sudden headache, sudden weakness or numbness, increased urination, painful or difficult urination, swelling, rapid weight gain or bone pain. These may be signs of a serious underlying condition that needs to be treated as soon as possible.
In rare cases, some patients may develop unusual pain or sensations in the back, numbness, weakness or tingling in legs or feet, muscle weakness or loss of bowel or bladder control. Using the medicine for a long period may also lead to reduced bone density, which may result in the development of osteoporosis.
Also watch out for symptoms of allergy, especially if you are using the medicine for the first time. Such symptoms include severe dizziness, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, and hives on body or swelling on face, throat, lips or tongue. Discontinue using the medicine and seek immediate medical help if you develop any of these symptoms.
Dosage of Lupron Injection
Each Lupron Injection 0.2ml contains Leuprolide Acetate 1mg. Your doctor will give you one Lupron Injection 1mg once per day, either subcutaneously or intramuscularly.
Change the site of injection every day, and do not re-use the same site for at least two weeks.
Keep the medicine stored in a refrigerator, away from light, moisture, children and pets.
Drug Interactions of Lupron Injection
Inform your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter medicines you are taking at present.
As the drug makes you dizzy, do not buy Lupron Injection along with any other medicines that cause the same effect. Such medicines include sedatives, sleeping pills, antidepressants, anti-anxiety medicines, anti-seizure medicines or muscle relaxants.
