General Information on Mestinon SR
Mestinon SR is specifically recommended to improve muscle strength in patients suffering from neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis. It is also used to treat military personnel who have been exposed to nerve gas.
Pyridostigmine, the main active ingredient in the medication, belongs to a group of drugs known as anticholinesterase muscle stimulants. It works by inhibiting the breakdown of acetylcholine in the body. Acetylcholine is a natural substance required by the body for normal muscle functioning.
Mestinon SR is available in the form of an extended release tablet or time span tablet. The extended release tablet is different from a regular tablet. In the extended release tablet, the release of Mestinon SR takes place in a controlled manner over a period of time. Each Mestinon SR tablet contains 180mg Pyridostigmine bromide.

Side effects of Mestinon SR

Dosage of Mestinon SR

Do not crush or chew it. You can take the medication with or without food.
The recommended dosage to control the symptoms of myasthenia gravis is one to three Mestinon SR tablets daily. However, a doctor may recommend a different dosage to suit individual requirements. Mestinon SR is an extended release tablet, so the minimum interval between two doses should be 6 hours.
Interactions
