General Information on Metrocream

Metrocream is specifically recommended for the treatment of rosacea or adult acne. The ointment helps reduce the number of pimples, swelling and redness caused by rosacea.

Metronidazole, the main active ingredient in the medication is an antibiotic. It works by interfering in bacterial DNA synthesis that prevents the bacteria from multiplying which results in death of bacteria. The drug also works to reduce the inflammation caused by rosacea.

Metrocream is available in the form of a topical cream. It may cause side effects in some cases, so you should exercise caution regarding use of this topical cream. To reduce the risk of side effects, consult your doctor before you buy Metrocream.

Side effects of Metrocream

Metrocream may cause mild to severe side effects in some people. Nausea, dryness, stinging, redness or burning sensation on the applied area, skin irritation, vaginal itching or discharge, metallic taste in your mouth are some less serious side effects associated with Metrocream.

You may also experience less serious side effects such as sore throat, cough, numbness/tingling sensation in your feet or hands, stuffy nose, cold symptoms, scaly/dry/itchy skin. Dosage of Metrocream

Your doctor will give specific instructions regarding application of the medication. You must wash your hands before you apply Metrocream. Clean the skin area where the medication will be applied with water and dry it before applying the cream. Wait for 15 minutes and then apply a thin coat of Metrocream on the affected skin area.

You must wait for five minutes after applying the medication before you apply any cosmetics on the skin area where the medication is applied. Apply Metrocream at the same time everyday to get maximum benefits from the treatment. Do not apply Metrocream around the eye area unless your doctor has recommended it.

Interactions

Metrocream may potentially interact with other medicines you are using and cause side effects. To reduce the risk of side effects due to drug interactions, tell doctor about every medication you are using before starting the treatment. Tell him/her about prescription medicines, over the counter drugs, other skin ointments and herbal supplements you are using.
