General Information on Mysoline
Mysoline is an anti-epileptic medication given for the control and prevention of seizures. The generic name for this drug is primidone, which is an anti-convulsant.
Mysoline is mainly used for the treatment of simple and complex partial and generalized tonic-clonic seizures. It has also been used effectively against akinetic and myoclonic seizures. The exact method of action of primidone is unknown.

Side effects of Mysoline
You must not buy Mysoline if you have previously suffered an allergy to primidone or Phenobarbital. You may also not be able to take this medication if you suffer from porphyria. The most common side effect reported with this medication is having suicidal thoughts. Therefore, you must visit your doctor regularly in order to check your mental condition.
Other serious side effects of Mysoline would include mood or behavioral changes, anxiety or depression, agitation, restlessness, abnormal hostility towards others, physical or mental hyperactivity and having suicidal thoughts. If you are already on Mysoline, you may have to continue taking it even if you seem to be fine. You may suffer from more seizures than earlier if you abruptly stop taking Mysoline.
Mysoline may also be dangerous to the fetus if taken during pregnancy. However, a seizure during pregnancy is dangerous for both mother and child. You must only take Mysoline if your doctor has adviced you to do after knowing about your pregnancy. If you are found to be pregnant during treatment with Mysoline, then you must not stop taking the medication unless your doctor says so. It is very important for mothers to control and prevent seizures while they are pregnant.
Dosage of Mysoline
Mysoline must be taken as per the dosage prescribed by your doctor. You must not take a dose larger than that prescribed for you. You must also carefully read the instruction label that comes with this medication before you begin taking it. Mysoline is available in two strengths- Mysoline 50mg and Mysoline 250mg.
For patients over or of the age of 8 years who have not had any treatment for seizures previously, the recommended starting dosage uses Mysoline 50mg or Mysoline 250mg. For the first three days, 100mg to 125mg of this medication is recommended to be given before sleeping at night. From the fourth to sixth day, the recommended dosage is 100mg to 125mg, given twice a day.
From the seventh day to the ninth day, the recommended dosage is also 100mg to 250mg, but given thrice a day. From the tenth day onwards, the recommended maintenance dosage can be given, which is 250mg per day, thrice a day. In most cases, the maintenance dosage is divided into three or four dosages in a day. This may also be increased to five or six tablet of 250mg per day, if needed. However, the daily dosage strength is not recommended to exceed 500mg, four times a day.
