Basic Information on Naftin
Naftin is an anti-fungal drug that prevents the fungus from spreading on the skin. It is used topically for the treatment of fungal infections such as athlete’s feet, ringworm, jock itch etc. It is used in treating the fungal infections that are caused by organisms like Epidermophyton floccosum, Trichophyton tonsurans, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, and Trichophyton rubrum. It is derived from allylamine and is a broad spectrum agent. The drug acts by inhibiting the enzyme squalene 2.3-epoxidose, due to which the sterol bio-synthesis is blocked. This leads to decrease in the amount of sterols (like ergosterol). However, the exact mechanism of action is not known. The brand or generic Naftin should be started or stopped as prescribed by your physician because even though the symptoms disappear the infection may prevail. p>
