Nasacort AQ nasal spray is synthetic corticosteroid called adrenocortical steroid. It contains triamcinolone which can be administered in various forms such as oral, inhalation and injection or can be used topically in form of ointment/cream. This drug is a nasal spray that is administered only through intra-nasal route. Nasacort AQ drug is used for the treatment of nasal allergies and symptoms which include running nose, sneezing and itching. It is indicated in the treatment of perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis and hay fever.
The accurate mechanism of action of the drug is not known. In children 2-5 years of age the recommended dose of Nasacort AQ nasal spray is 110 mcg/day administered as 1-spray, once daily in each nostril. In patients 6-12 years of age the starting dose is recommended to be 110 mcg/day administered as 1-spray, once daily in each nostril. If the response is not satisfactory then the dose may be increased to 220 mcg/day, which is 2-sprays in each nostril. In patients > 12 years of age and adults the starting dose of brand or generic Nasacort AQ is recommended to be 220 mcg/day; 2-sprays in each nostril. Once the desired effect is achieved then the dose may be reduced to 110 mcg/day.
